Teaching for the reality of practice.
Every course I design starts with one question: how do I make this like real life?
What I Teach
Leadership & Organizational Behavior
Leadership, management, organizational behavior, strategy, team dynamics, communication, and healthcare management.
Laboratory Practice & Clinical Decision Making
Clinical microbiology, infectious disease, clinical chemistry, laboratory operations, diagnostic reasoning, quality, and the decisions that have to be made in actual laboratory practice.
Interprofessional & Team Science Education
Team science, interprofessional learning, communication, coordination, simulation, speaking up, and working across professional roles.
Selected Teaching Projects
Lab Command
Lab Command is a simulated laboratory-management environment where students evaluate the state of a laboratory and make management decisions across quality, regulation, operations, staffing, people, finance, strategy, and competing priorities. The simulation gives them a laboratory-specific setting in which they have to use operational information and evidence to make and defend management decisions.

- Management Dashboards
Simulated Microbiology Laboratory Final
Students spend a week working through a simulated microbiology laboratory final as if they are practicing medical laboratory scientists. The experience mirrors the responsibilities and workflow of a real microbiology laboratory. Using SOPs, patient and specimen information, laboratory forms, and reporting documents, students carry out bench responsibilities from identification and documentation through reporting and clinical communication.
- Simulated Hospital Lab
- Week-Long Practicum
SBAR Clinical Communication Simulation
Students decide which laboratory findings require communication and use SBAR to organize what they need to say. The exercise focuses on when escalation is needed and how to communicate clearly across professional roles.
- TeamSTEPPS
- Critical Result Communication
- Escalation Decisions
Longitudinal Interprofessional Learning
Interprofessional learning is threaded through the semester and curriculum rather than confined to one event. Students repeatedly practice how to contribute their own professional expertise, coordinate with other professions, and make shared patient-care decisions. That work includes ICU interprofessional simulation and a month-long collaboratory in which students work across professions to apply their expertise to patient problems and team decisions. SBAR and antimicrobial-stewardship work reinforce the same expectations between those larger experiences.

- Interprofessional Team Training
- Interprofessional Collaboratory
Corporate Strategy & Teaming Simulation
Business students work in a semester-long strategy simulation in which their teams make organizational decisions as the course content progresses. Every other week, teams present the decisions they made, what they learned from the results, and how those choices connect to the strategy concepts being taught at that point in the course.

- Strategy Planning & Execution
Clinical Microbiology as Practice
Clinical microbiology is taught around specimen-based reasoning, diagnostic workflow, organism identification, reporting, troubleshooting, escalation, and laboratory operations. The goal is to teach the work of microbiology, not only the organisms.
- Specimen-to-Report Workflow
- Diagnostic Reasoning
- Bench Practice
Digital Learning Architecture
I design and code learning environments, not just course pages. The Canvas structure, custom HTML, navigation, and sequencing are planned around how students actually move through a course and what they need to do next.
- Custom Canvas HTML
- Course Architecture
Clinical Laboratory Management Redesign
The management course moves beyond a standard topic list and asks students to apply management concepts in laboratory contexts. Students work with organizational behavior, strategy, communication, team dynamics, quality, operations, leadership, and process improvement as parts of the same management role.
- Applied Lab Management
- Organizational Behavior
- Management Decision-Making

Faculty Development
Team Science for Educators
I help faculty think more deliberately about how teamwork is taught. The focus is on giving students opportunities to practice how teams function instead of expecting group assignments alone to teach those skills.
Simulation Development
I work with faculty on moving from a learning objective to a usable simulation. The process starts with what learners need to practice and carries through the design of the experience and debrief.
Interprofessional Activity Development
I help faculty develop interprofessional activities that make sense for the professions involved and the learning goal. We work through how the activity will function and how the learning will be evaluated.
Instructional Design & Technology
I work with faculty on how a course is organized and experienced online. Canvas, custom HTML, and instructional technology are used when they improve how students move through the course or support the learning more effectively.
AI in Course Design
I work with faculty on practical uses of AI during course development. The focus is on where AI can reduce routine work or extend what faculty can create while keeping faculty judgment at the center.
